FAN ZONE RECOGNITION

Preston’s Euros Fan Zone, staged by Preston BID in partnership with city centre businesses, has been named runner-up in the coveted ‘Best Event’ category in a national awards competition.

The ‘Town & City Management Industry Awards’ are open to all destinations across the country, to specifically recognise projects that have shown commitment to economic and social improvements, particularly during the pandemic period.

Preston’s seven Fan Zone events, which happened during the summer of 2021, were the first large-scale city centre events to take place as restrictions eased. More than 3,500 people celebrated the England football team’s road to the finals at a specially created arena on the city’s historic Flag Market; with a waiting list of thousands missing out due to government restrictions.

A BID spokesperson said: “The Fan Zone was not an easy event to stage due to restrictions resulting from the pandemic. But we were committed to making it happen in so that people could safely return to the city centre, support traders, and enjoy a moment of national pride after a tough time for everyone.

“These events were hugely successful thanks to the hard work and planning of our team and partners. We would like to thank the event sponsors Luxury House Share UK, the brilliant attendees & supporters, and our suppliers – they made the Fan Zone events some of the most exciting and memorable events that the city has staged in years; we share this recognition with all of them”.
