BID’s annual power-washing programme will recommence on 5th April, with the addition of a disinfecting element.

The rolling programme, funded by the BID, has been operational throughout spring, summer and autumn since 2010 and has already deep-cleaned over 60km of city centre pavements.

This year the programme will feature an enhanced element with public furniture and high impact objects receiving a disinfectant spray post wash.

The works schedule, which focus on key visitor areas, also has the capacity to attend to areas which have become excessively soiled due to footfall or vehicular movements over recent months.

BID’s Mark Whittle said: “We are certainly in unprecedented times but are keen to continue with our deep-cleaning programme funded by city centre businesses; especially whilst the city centre streets are far quitter than usual.  In addition to deep-cleaning pavements the application of disinfectant of public furniture is an appropriate addition to the regular works”.

The operatives, seconded from Preston City Council, will use specialist high-pressure equipment whilst exercising safe working practices for themselves, members of the public in the city centre for essential reasons, and surrounding businesses.
